The Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) is a comprehensive program designed to equip healthcare professionals with essential knowledge and skills for the initial management of critically ill patients. Developed by the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and delivered in partnership with the Permian Health Lung Institute, this course is specifically tailored for doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals working in both public and private hospitals and clinics across The Gambia.
Learners will participate in a series of didactic sessions complemented by detailed case discussions relevant to the Gambian healthcare setting. These will be further reinforced through high-fidelity simulation exercises, allowing participants to apply and consolidate key concepts in a realistic environment. The course will introduce learners to essential critical care skills, including airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, management of acute coronary and stroke syndromes, and the recognition and management of respiratory failure. Specific attention will be given to oxygen therapy and both noninvasive and invasive mechanical ventilation, ensuring participants are prepared to address the spectrum of critical care emergencies encountered in The Gambia.
The course will be taught by experienced, highly skilled critical care professionals, ensuring the highest standards of instruction and mentorship for all participants.
