Pulmonary Function Technician (PFT)

Location: Brusubi, The Gambia


About Us

Permian Health Lung Institute is a forward-looking center dedicated to advancing respiratory care in The Gambia. Our Brusubi facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology for pulmonary diagnostics, including advanced spirometry and exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) testing. We are committed to clinical excellence, patient education, and workforce development in respiratory medicine.


Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and intellectually curious individual with an interest in the field of pulmonary diseases. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in advanced respiratory diagnostics within a structured, supportive environment.


We also welcome applications from recent graduates and final-year students, who may be considered for a paid internship with a pathway to full-time employment based on performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform spirometry testing in accordance with established standards 
  • Conduct airway inflammometry, including FeNO testing 
  • Assist with simple exercise testing 
  • Provide patient education on pulmonary health and diagnostic procedures 
  • Deliver aerosol therapy and inhaler technique education 
  • Maintain and calibrate diagnostic equipment 
  • Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to quality and safety standards 


Qualifications

For Full-Time Applicants

  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS), OR 
  • BSc (Honours) in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), OR 
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Medical Laboratory Technology 


For Internship Applicants

  • Currently enrolled in (final year) or recently completed: 
    • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS), OR 
    • BSc (Honours) in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), OR 
    • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Medical Laboratory Technology 


Experience

  • Prior clinical laboratory experience is advantageous but not required 
  • Permian Health Lung Institute will provide structured training and proctorship in advanced pulmonary diagnostic techniques.
